See what other parents and past students are saying about the culture and high-quality education at Lahr-Well Academy! Find out what your student is missing out on!

“Dr. Lahr-Well and her approach to education is extremely refreshing!  I was very concerned with my son not enjoying school or learning at all. He has made a complete turn-around since attending Lahr-Well Academy. He enjoys going to school every day. Not only does he not mind going to school he has developed a desire to learn beyond what is taught in the classroom.

Enrolling my son at Lahr-Well Academy is one of the best decisions I have ever made.”

“Our six year-old daughter has been attending Lahr-Well Academy for a little over a year and she really enjoys the school atmosphere and curriculum. The school has fostered a caring environment where she is not artificially limited by her age, background or the educational level of her peers. She has significantly advanced in her academics having received individualized attention in reading and mathematics, which has allowed her to test well beyond her age grade. Lahr-Well Academy provides the children with a rich experience beyond anything offered in the local schools.”

- Level 2 Parent

“Matthew is returning next year without hesitation. Our family needs  Lahr-Well. Since Matthew started school here his confidence level has dramatically increased and his anxiety level has decreased. I believe he is learning the way he was always intended to.”

“I would like to thank Lahr-Well Academy for my high school instruction. With the guidance of the staff, and the structure and format of the Academy, I have received a superior education which is opening doors to acceptance at prestigious colleges and universities. I hope to return in a few years to mentor in some capacity to the students.”

- Max Highley, College Freshman

“Rebecca spent a week in first grade in traditional education making butterflies … but she could not read at the end of the year. That would never happen at Lahr-Well Academy.”

- P.S. Gronemeyer, M.D. Mother

“We located Lahr-Well Academy while looking for a preschool for our 4-year old daughter…And we’re so glad we did.Within one year Nikki was reading! Later we enrolled our 4-year old son. Cody was also reading within one year’s time.”

- Dan & Sandy Spencer, Parents

“Advanced my children a minimum of 2-3 academic years in 8 months.”

- Gary Hawkins, Father

“I have been a counselor for over 30 years and encounter students with low self-esteem every day. After working at Lahr-Well Academy, I am convinced that academic achievement affects a student’s self-esteem. The students at the Academy feel good about themselves and their accomplishments.”

- Nancy Gaines, M.S.L.C.P.C.

“Why our daughter will be returning:

The same reason we enrolled her initially – we determined that traditional education does not provide the best learning environment for our daughter.

Our daughter is easily distracted so she does best in a quieter, calmer environment.

The class size at Lahr-Well is small which helps our daughter because she benefits from more individualized attention. She was receiving individual attention in traditional education, however she was being pulled from her general class quite a bit for this and was missing out on general class activities to the point that her participation as a class member was significantly impacted. At Lahr-Well, because of the smaller class size, the impact of individualized attention is all positive.

The traditional education which our daughter was receiving seemed to be set up so that all students had to conform to a very rigid learning standard despite the fact that children’s ages in elementary school grades can vary by almost a year and children do not all learn at the same rate. Expectation of student ability in traditional education appeared to be unrealistic (although these expectations appeared to be based on the Illinois State learning guidelines for first graders, which seem unrealistic in several categories – such as first graders being expected to be able to work complex mathematical word problems that require higher level reading abilities and math skills to complete). At Lahr-Well our daughter has been able to work on her level and actually is improving in all areas at her pace.

The wearing of uniforms seems to have improved our daughter’s ability to focus on her learning. In traditional education there were so many distractions, particularly involving clothes and dressing up. These distractions were preventing our daughter from focusing on learning.

Additionally our daughter may have been teased/harassed in traditional education setting and did not currently have the social skills to discourage this type of behavior. Our daughter seems much more comfortable and is no longer stressed when she comes home from school.

In the traditional education environment, it appeared that quite a bit of time was wasted with students waiting in line or going from one place to another. At Lahr-Well, because of the smaller class size and the way the classes are set up, time spent at school appears to be used much more efficiently. “

I have written this letter about Macioe Firsching, whom I have come to know as a Biology major here at Missouri Western State University. I have been very impressed by Macioe, and I am pleased to tell you why.

I have observed Macioe to have very good academic ability. She has the capacity to approach new and difficult subjects and to build on a growing knowledge base. It is also apparent that Macioe is well prepared for success in college. I think a significant amount of credit for that should go to her support network, including her family and the teachers and staff at your school.

Macioe and I first worked together in the classroom and laboratory settings of my Genetics class. She was an asset to the class as a whole and performed very well in the class. She showed an ability to learn course material that covered classical, molecular, and population genetics. I also noticed that Macioe was a contributor to class discussions. Often the discussions covered controversial or sensitive topics, and Macioe expressed her views with respect for others. In the laboratory part of Genetics, Macioe showed a good level of responsibility, working individually and in teams. She was able to make connections between the lecture material and the laboratory activities. She learned how to work independently, to address difficult original challenges, to confront failed experiments with effective trouble- shooting, and to work collaboratively with others.

Macioe also took an Honors Colloquium on Personal Genomics that I was privileged to teach in 2021. The class met weekly for discussions of the various readings we assigned ourselves on topics that included personal genomic services, personalized medicine, genomics and the law, evolution of the human genome, multiomics, and epigenomics. I appreciated having Macioe in the class for several reasons. She was always prepared, having completed the readings and prepared discussion questions for the class. She showed an intellectual curiosity about the topics that often led our class in interesting directions. She clearly expressed her viewpoints on the issues we discussed, and tried hard to understand those of others. I can confidently say that the overall learning experience the Honors Colloquium students had was much improved because Macioe was there.

Macioe always displayed a good attitude in class. She often came by my office to ask for help understanding difficult material. I also know that she shared that understanding with others in an informal genetic study group. Macioe and I had some interesting conversations both in class and outside of class about the practice of science, the practice of medicine, and about the challenges that advances in each continue to bring to individuals, families, and society. I expect that she will continue to be engaged in these issues.
I have also found Macioe to be very personable. She seems to get along well with almost everyone she comes into contact with. This made her a good team player during group lab projects in Genetics lab and led to more productive and respectful discussions in both Genetics and Personal Genomics. In my opinion, her positive attitude positively affected the learning by other students.

I think Macioe is well on her way to a rewarding career in biology. She clearly has the academic preparedness and personal drive to find a path that will not only be rewarding for her, but will benefit others. Thank you for the role you and your staff played in preparing Macioe to succeed here in college and beyond.

My Promise to You:

"If your child isn't gifted on the first day of school, she or he will be on graduation day."

Learn Well

Learning well prepares your child to investigate a lifetime of new adventures. To learn well is more than only studying what your child is interested in studying.

In order to be a well-rounded person, one needs to be educated in foreign languages, as well as science, technology, engineering art and mathematics, a S.T.E.a.M. discipline/approach.

Students at the Academy, from the age of 4 through grade 12, study five foreign languages: Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

Parents who desire a better life for their child/ren need to embrace a well-rounded/rock-solid education. The Academy's amazing and extraordinary curriculum is a curriculum that parents can trust!

At Lahr-Well Christian Academy, your child will not sit on the edges and observe without participating. Our teachers draw the entire class into discussions and activities.

Lead Well

In order to be well-educated, one also needs to build a core value of positive morals and ethics.

Integrity is key to all.

At Lahr-Well Christian Academy, a student learns to enhance wisdom through discernment.

Leadership is not sitting in an ivory tower.  Leadership cannot be "Do as I say, not as I do."  Leadership is attempting the "impossible," leading by example.

At Lahr-Well Christian Academy, students are taught to bring their intrinsic value to the table as leaders.

More than simply profess, one should learn to believe that "A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches; And favor (to be esteemed) is better than silver and gold."

Proverbs 22:1, Amplified Bible

Lahr-Well

Lahr-Well Christian Academy provides an advanced education for students of forward thinking parents.

Founded by Dr. Almeda M. Lahr-Well, the Academy has been in existence since the 1984/1985 academic year.  With more than 34 years of research and development in grades pre-K through grade 12, nationally standardized test scores support that after 4-6 years’ instruction, students are generally testing 2-6 years beyond chronological age.

To our knowledge, a program equal to the Lahr-Well Curriculum Concept is nonexistent in the United States.

Dr. Lahr-Well makes two promises to parents:

#1 "If your child isn't gifted on the first day of school, she/he will be on graduation day."

#2 "Your child will learn well to lead well at Lahr-Well!

The Curriculum You Can Trust

Lahr-Well Christian Academy is a not-for-profit, private school that has been serving students since 1985 in grades pre-K through grade 12.

Our comprehensive curriculum highlights reading, mathematics, language arts, STEaM studies, five foreign languages, computer instruction, music appreciation, social sciences, literary masterpieces, hands-on art & art history and philosophy.

Typically after 4 to 6 years of instruction, our students' test scores are at a level 2 to 6 years beyond their chronological age.

To our knowledge, there is no program equal to this in the U.S.
